The clocks have gone back, the nights are drawing in and the Christmas lights are on – winter is well and truly here. At this time of year, there’s nothing better than settling in at home for the evening, so here are some easy and simple tips to make your home extra cosy this winter.

1) Light up your life

Long, dark nights can leave us feeling a little blue, so brighten up your home (and your mood) by adding a little extra ambient lighting to each room. Floor lamps are a quick and easy way to brighten up a dark corner and a statement table lamp will illuminate a room without the stark brightness of a ceiling light. Lanterns and candles also create a lovely glow on an evening.

2) Add an aroma

Scents play a large part in how our homes feel, and the right aroma can help to create that perfect winter cosiness. From candles and diffusers to scented room sprays, there are many ways to make your home smell great. Scents such as fir trees, clementines, cinnamon and gingerbread will definitely get you in the winter spirit.

3) Layer up

Soft furnishings are essential when it comes to creating cosy vibes, so make sure your sofa and bed are stocked up with an array of cushions and throws – perfect for sinking in to after a long day.

4) A warm welcome

Keep a pair of your favourite slippers by your front door. There’s nothing better than coming home and taking off your shoes, without getting chilly feet!

We know how important feeling at home is – we’ve been helping people find their home for over 35 years!

Fancy getting cosy in a new home in the New Year? Contact us today or pop into one of our offices – we can’t promise slippers by the door, but we can guarantee fantastic service and a warm welcome from the Kirkham team.
