A lasting power of attorney, also known as an LPA, is a legal document that lets you, the donor, appoint one or more people (known as attorneys) to help you make decisions, or make decisions on your behalf.

By carrying out this process, it provides you with more control over what happens to you if, for example, you were to have an accident or suffer an illness whereby you lacked the mental capacity to make a decision at the required moment in time.
