What do you love most about your home?
As Dorothy famously muttered ‘there’s no place like home’.
There’s nothing like getting home at the end of a long day, throwing your coat down, slipping off your shoes and collapsing on to a comfortable sofa with a cup of tea. But what makes a house a home.
Is it the familiarity of your possessions? The pets which greet you ecstatically at the door? The sense of serenity found only when you’re in your own space? We want to know.
Here’s why we think home, is more than just bricks and mortar.
Comfort:
Maybe it’s the long soaks in the bath, the smell of dinner cooking in the oven or the cosy Friday nights curled up on the sofa, comfort is key. The Danes sum it up best. ‘Hygge’ is the cosy contentment of enjoying life’s simple pleasures. Perhaps that’s what home is. A place to enjoy all of the little joys of life which make us feel content and satisfied.
Security:
Having a safe and secure environment to return home to each day provides a huge sense of relief. When you shut the front door, knowing that you’re in your own space is a lovely feeling. Surrounded by your possessions, loved ones or pets, your home contains many of the elements which make your life complete.
Memories:
Maybe it’s a child’s first steps in the hallway, the job offer celebrated in the lounge or the family Christmas dinners in the dining room that give you a warm fuzzy feeling. Those four walls can provoke huge emotional responses.
That room:
You know, that one room you love the most. Perhaps it’s the way the morning lights bounces off the walls or how the furniture looks just so. It’s not necessarily the biggest room, but it’s yours. Your favourite room might not even be indoors. It could be an adult sized wendy house at the bottom of your garden where you can relax without interruption, or a cosy book nook under the stairs where you can absorb the pages of your favourite novel.
So what makes home the best place to be?
We’d love to hear from you about what you love most about your home.
